Under 5s: Under the sea
Tuesdays 17 - 31 July
Wobble like a jellyfish, glide like a tortoise and snap like a shark as we make our way through the museum to discover the magnificent world of creatures that live under the sea. Enjoy a touch tour of sea-specimens and objects, listen to stories, and create your own watercolour painting or jellyfish sculpture.

Guided Tours
Join our art-guides and delve into the beautiful exhibition Fish in Australian art through a complimentary 1 hour tour.
Meet your guide at the museum foyer or join in at the entrance to the exhibition near the neon fish.

NAIDOC week: Artist talk and demonstration with Ken Thaiday senior
Thursday 5 July | 12 pm - 1.30 pm and 3 pm - 4.30 pm
One of Australia's most senior and acclaimed Torres Strait islander artists, Ken Thaiday constructs magnificent kinetic artworks, exhibited in major museums around the world. His work is also featured in the exhibition Fish in Australian Art. In this talk and demonstration Ken shares his practice and stories and provides a demonstration on the methods he uses to construct and perform his extraordinary dance machines (headdresses).

NAIDOC week: weaving workshops
Thursday 5 July | 5.30 pm - 8 pm
Discover Indigenous weaving techniques and stories in an artist-led workshop. Create your own woven artworks or accessories. Includes light refreshments and admission to the exhibition Fish in Australian Art.
This program is presented in partnership with Boolarng Ngangamai Aboriginal Art & Culture Studio.

Under 5s: Fishy Fun - An art adventure
Tuesdays 1 - 29 May
Join us for an art adventure! Sing the colours of the rainbow, follow straight and curved and wiggly lines through our special exhibition Fish in Australian art. Listen to the stories behind the images. Make your own works of art including tempera paintings, rubbings and fish sculptures.

Workshop and artist talk with Roger Swainston
Sunday 27 May | 1.30 pm – 5 pm
Delve into the unconventional underwater art practice of Roger Swainston, participating artist in the exhibition FISH in Australian Art. Enjoy afternoon tea and a workshop led by the artist. Immerse yourself in the experience of scientific drawing and discover a range of materials and techniques for producing beautiful illustrations.

Kids on Deck: Fish fantastic
Sunday 8 April - Sunday 22 April | 10 am - 4 pm daily
Be inspired by frilly, finned and fantastic fish. Make a funky neon fish drawing, print scales on a reusable bag or pull together a 3D shark puzzle. Dress up to create your own tableau vivante (living picture).

Youth Workshop: Flying Fish! Stop-Motion And Claymation

Learn photographic and editing techniques to produce your own stop-motion and clay animations inspired by FISH in Australian Art. Create your own short animation to take home and have your work featured on the museum's youtube channel.

Over 5s: Fishing workshop
20 April | 10.30 am - 12 pm or 1 pm - 2.30 pm
These ever popular workshops teach children responsible and sustainable fishing practices as well as the finer points of baiting a hook, casting and handling your catch.

Cost: Members $25.00, general $30. Suitable for children 5 -12 years. Includes refreshments. Children will be fully supervised by RFT education officers

Storytelling: Tales from the Sea
Sunday 22 April | 11 am, 12 pm and 1 pm | 30 min sessions
Be enthralled by storyteller Miles Merrill as he weaves tales inspired by the museum's collection including the Cape Bowling Green Lighthouse and the history of whaling. National Heritage Fesitival event.
